Despite stated good intentions, Diversity Equity and Inclusion (DEI) programs have been ineffective at achieving diversity and racial harmony. In fact, DEI often ends up discriminating against some groups while favoring others.

Dr. Nate provides several examples of red states — including Texas, Florida, Iowa and Utah — working to dismantle racist diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) programs in education and government.

Unfortunately, Idaho is trailing the pack, though the Governor did sign Senate Bill 1274, which effectively banned diversity statements as a condition of employment in Idaho government.

Sen. Brian Lenney introduced legislation to dismantle DEI in Idaho’s institutions of higher education during the 2024 session. But his effort ended in a chairman’s drawer when Sen. Jim Guthrie declined to let it be heard. Lenney plans to bring the bill back again in the 2025 session hoping it will pass this time around.
