A Midwestern Doctor’s articles (AMD) are often lengthy, but always packed with good information. This one is particularly good, as it explains how the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) began, how it became corrupted, the many good drugs it suppressed and the many bad ones it promoted, and how FDA could be fixed under a federal administration dedicated to Make America Healthy Again (MAHA) principles.
Story at a Glance (edited for brevity):
The first FDA was created in 1906, in response to massive public protests against adulterated food and drugs (e.g., rotting food partially preserved with food additives or counterfeit consumer products).
Food industry lobbyists did all they could to stop FDA creation, eventually taking over the Department of Agriculture and ultimately forcing the good guy at the helm (Harvey Wiley) to quit.
Many toxic food additives Wiley fought against gained “generally recognized as safe” (GRAS) status and still are used today.
In 1962, thalidomide almost devastated America’s children, prompting Congress to give the FDA much broader powers to police the safety and efficacy of drugs.
FDA ultimately created an impossible standard of efficacy that it selectively enforced to protect the pharmaceutical industry.
FDA simultaneously employed increasingly brazen (and illegal) police tactics against anyone promoting effective natural therapies.
FDA’s actions caused many life-changing medical therapies (including blood irradiation, DMSO, natural medicine and more) to be blacklisted and fade into obscurity.
FDA tended to push unsafe and ineffective therapies (e.g., vaccines or antidepressants) regardless of how much data argued against doing so.
FDA became the most protested agency in the federal government.
Every passed attempt to fix the FDA failed.
This article reviews structural issues that brought the FDA to incompetence and corruption. It also proposes potential solutions to end the FDA’s war against America’s health.
