😵 DEAD HR 10445 House Continuing Resolution. The bill “Making further continuing appropriations for the fiscal year ending September 30, 2025, and for other purposes” is DEAD.

President-elect Donald Trump and Elon Musk blocked a stopgap funding deal put forward by House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La) and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) in Congress. The measure was scrapped after Trump urged Republicans to nix it and citizens yelled at their legislators to shut it down.

We all DOGEd many bullets in this 1547 page $100 billion atrocity that among others things would have:

• Kept the government open until March 14, heading off a shutdown set to begin on Dec. 21.

• Incorporated a long list of unrelated measures on health, agriculture, emergency aid, and a number of controversial provisions.

• Expanded Big Pharma liability protections and pandemic emergency powers.

• Made it easier to hide the records of the January 6 committee.

• Gave Congress massive pay and benefits increases while many Americans struggle.

• Provided a carve-out for lawmakers to opt out of Obamacare

• Funded controversial State Department censorship programs.

• And too much more to stuff into a Substack Note.

ED NOTE 

While this one very bad bill may be dead, such ideas and bills rarely totally die — they simply get resurrected in a new guise, in a hurry, with the worst items buried deep in the weeds. 

So we all must be Vigilant, Defiant, and Resolute (which, coincidentally, were models of wonderful Vermont Castings woodstoves that kept us toasty back in the day).
