If we wish to truly seek the consent of the governed, we Americans must reassert control over our Federal elections and restore electoral processes that are worthy of our trust. ~Ralph K. Ginorio

Mr. Ginorio offers suggestions for Federal office election integrity, though he admits his recommendations could face reasonable opposition and would require increased human and material resources.

Summary:

  • Constitutional Amendment: Pass a US Constitutional amendment regarding elections for Federal office. NOTE: The author is admittedly reluctant to grant increased power to Federal authorities.

  • Voter Identification: National voter ID with similar security to a passport that can definitively confirm the voter’s identity and eligibility to vote.

  • Election Week: Polls open from 8am - 8pm local time during the week prior to election day. Overseas, Absentee, and Military voting conducted between one and two weeks prior.

  • Paper Ballots: No paperless machine voting. Voting exclusively in written form with permanent ink on secured and difficult-to-counterfeit paper ballots.

  • Announcing Results: Announce results no later than forty-eight hours after polls close.

  • Taking Office: Office would change hands the next day to avoid interregnum shenanigans.

  • Term Limits: Twelve years maximum in any single office (President: three 4-year terms; Senator: two 6-year terms; Congress: six 2-year terms). Twenty year cap on total years in Federal office to account for those who serve in different roles (e.g., Congress + Senate).

  • One Person–One Vote: No ranked choice voting or similar schemes.
