Great job by the defense. Special teams was asked to do as little as possible and to hide next to the curtains Comey style.

Offense did it’s usual turtle thing. Defense kept giving the offense opportunities to put the game away and they couldn’t.

I know we like to give Shaw shit for conservative play calling and sitting on a lead but I think Wilcox is of the same mindset.

A win is a win, wish we could have beaten Stanford and OSU but I’ll take a win over the ducks. Same flaws on offense and spec…

Derek Wilkins 6’5” 250 lbs (self-declared). DE/DT c/o 2021, Santa Margarita Catholic HS, Rancho Santa Margarita, CA High-end composite 3 star, but 4 star at 247 with an almost certain rise to composite 4 star

Derek chooses Cal over ‘furd and UCLA, plus 17 others including USC, Washington, Oregon, Michigan, and Nebraska. Derek plays on Santa Margarita, which is the doormat of the uber-competitive Trinity League in California’s Southern Section Division 1. SMHS has to play top-shelf competition l…

Myles Williams El Camino Real HS/Calabasas HS/Alemany HS 3 star 6-3 260 lbs

I first went to check Myles out, peeping in a 247sports. https://247sports.com/Player/Myles-Williams-46083251/

His highlight reel started playing, so I watched. Big kid who played inside and overpowered his smaller opponents by just leaning on them. But he didn't impress me. Granted, it's harder to assess D-lineman because so much of what they do is in footwork, handwork, shoulder work at the micro-level and not just bul…

Patrick Hisatake 3* OLB/DE 6-5” 240 lbs Clackamas HS/Westview HS

Oh man, his tape is a delight. http://www.hudl.com/v/2C1gDm He is a physical freak.

He very much looks like he's a legit 6'5" with a very long wingspan and rare speed/quickness for someone of that size.

He comes off the edge a lot - and he should because his outside speed rush is very special. Like a baby Pain Train. Despite being tall, he can dip his shoulder under a block and turn the corner with a crazy burst of speed that leav…

J. Michael Sturdivant Marcus HS – Flower Mound TX 4 star WR 6-2/185 lbs

J-Mike had a whopping 32 Power-5 offers, including LSU, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, ‘furd, and Michigan. Depending on the source, he’s a top 100 US recruit and top 20 state of Texas recruit. He had an official 4.67 40-yd dash (meh speed) at The Opening in April 2019 and self-reported 4.31 shuttle (okay quickness) and 34” vertical (good). When you watch his tape, you can tell he’s not a burner. Why is everyone so gaga over him?

Kaleb Higgins CB Folsom HS (Folsom, CA) 6’2” 175 lbs c/o 2021 Hudl highlights: http://www.hudl.com/v/2CbSjF

Ironically, it was Stanfurd that brought Kaleb Higgins to Cal. Kaleb and his older brother Elijah played for Bowie Bulldogs in Austin TX. When the older 4-star brother went to play for Stanfurd, the Higgins family moved to California to be closer to Elijah, with the younger brother playing his junior year to play for the Folsom Bulldogs. Cal and ‘furd were early on Kaleb’s radar and he v…

By any measure, this season far exceeded all exceptions. I call it a huge success. Some great wins and Fox seems to be building a strong culture. Will miss Paris & Kareem, but I love our core of MB, Grant, DJ and Brown coming back. I see MB as a PoY candidate by the time his Senior year rolls around. With the new guys coming in and if Lars & Kuany can break out, we'll be in business next year.
