Mr. Krugman, William Shirer's famous history "The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich" came out with the capsule description: "The Story of a Man, a Nation, and a World Gone Mad." That sounds like the story of our time.

This is a thing that's always fascinated me. Conservatives have this ingrained belief that international institutions — the UN and NATO in particular — are somehow undermining American sovereignty, when nearly every one of them was created by America, for America, to project our values onto the world. But, as we've learned, conservatives hate our values, so maybe that adds up after all.

Chaos is the goal. Think Reichstag fire. It is directly from the strong man takeover playbook.
