Addendum: The US can’t produce enough physicians to meet the demands of the population for a variety of reasons - not enough STEM majors, the obscene cost of higher education and medical school, the number of years of education required for medical degrees, residency and so on. From what I gather, much of this is deliberate policy designed to raise costs and profits in the healthcare industry aka the medical-industrial complex. The result is a constant demand for physicians who are as you point out, immigrant laborers with H-1B visas. Note: I’m not suggesting that Americans should “buy American” when they need to see a doctor. Just something to keep in mind…
