There's a lot we should be protesting against and fighting for.

Rainbow-coloured road crossings are there to remind a marginalised group that they're allowed to be proud of who they are.

Just like as Māori we need to remind ourselves we're allowed to be proud of who we are. We need this because over a century of majority voices, racist and assimilation policies and practices told us we weren't.

We had to change our names. Stop speaking our language. Give up our beliefs and pick up somebody else's.

There's a lot we should be protesting against and fighting for. And we only have so much time.

If you think protesting a marginalised group being reminded they're allowed to be them is time well spent, think better.

If you think your religious views come with an "I believe this, so you better," brush, think better.

Then do better.
