Cambodia breaks ground on $2bn China-funded expressway

PHNOM PENH -- Construction began Friday on Cambodia's first-ever expressway, a $2 billion Chinese-funded project that underscores the country's growing dependence on Beijing under strongman Prime Minister Hun Sen.

When Hun Sen spoke at Friday's groundbreaking ceremony outside Phnom Penh, he emphasized how China was instrumental in getting the project underway.
