It’s finally time: Apple has announced it will start shipping its Vision Pro headset on February 2nd in the United States. Pre-orders begin January 19th at 8AM ET.

In addition to announcing the availability of its $3,499 headset, Apple also revealed the pricing for the Zeiss prescription lenses that users can get with it. Readers will be available for an extra $99, while prescription lenses will cost $149. The base model of the Vision Pro offers 256GB of storage and is packaged with the following accessories:

  • Solo Knit Band and Dual Loop Band
  • A light seal and two light seal cushions
  • Apple Vision Pro cover
  • Polishing cloth
  • Battery
  • USB-C charging cable and USB-C power adapter

Apple first revealed the Vision Pro headset during its Worldwide Developer Conference last June. The $3,499 Vision Pro offers a 4K display for each eye and lets you switch between augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) using a dial located on the side of the headset. It’s powered by a dual-chip setup featuring Apple’s in-house M2 chip and the new R1 chip, which is dedicated to processing data from built-in sensors, cameras, and microphones. Users can also navigate the interface without a controller, as the device supports eye, head, and hand tracking.

Apple has mainly showcased the device as a way to interact with familiar apps, like FaceTime, Photos, and Movies, as well as to view spatial videos recorded with the iPhone 15 Pro. The company says users will be able to access more than 150 3D titles through the Apple TV app. Those integrations are possible because the headset runs visionOS, Apple’s new operating system that the company says works with most iPhone and iPad apps without requiring any additional work from developers.

Judging by demos of the headset, the Vision Pro offers a pretty impressive experience. The only question is whether that’s enough to convince users to buy one at a $3,499 price.

Update January 8th, 9:19AM ET: Added pricing details for prescription inserts and included accessories.

Correction January 8th, 9:40AM ET: A previous version of the article incorrectly stated the Vision Pro has 256GB of RAM when it has 256GB of storage. We regret the error.
