Former US President Donald Trump has vowed to throw a "year-long party" to mark the country's 250th birthday - also referred to as the Semiquincentennial - should he be elected to serve a second term of office next November.

July 4, 2026 will mark the 250th anniversary of the signing of the United States Declaration of Independence in 1776, with Trump promising a big celebration "for everything we've gone through".

The 77-year old made the pledge on Saturday during a speech at the Faith & Freedom Coalition's Conference in Washington, D.C.

Trump who became the nation's 45th President in 2017 said such an event would "restore pride in our history and confidence in our future".

"And we're going to have a big celebration. And it's going to be a celebration like we really deserve in this country for everything we've gone through," he began.

"With you at my side we will give our nation's founding the amazing anniversary party that America needs and so richly deserves."

Trump then used his platform to bemoan 37 criminal charges brought against him earlier this month for mishandling of classified documents, obstructing justice and making false statements.

He also took the time to call out Alvin Bragg, the Manhattan District Attorney who charged him with crimes related to the 2016 Stormy Daniels hush money case.

"I will direct a completely overhauled DOJ (Department of Justice) to investigate every radical DA (District Attorney) in America," Trump ranted, before labelling them "racists in reverse".

As the conservative crowd offered chants of "USA", Trump enthused: "I'm probably the only person in history who was indicted and my numbers went up."

Later in his speech, meanwhile, he was cheered as he made another vow - to "obliterate the deep state", adding he would create a "Truth and Reconciliation Commission" that would be tasked with declassifying and publishing "all documents on deep state spying, censorship and corruption".

Moving on to the subject of immigration, Trump said a second term would result in him overseeing the "largest domestic deportation operation" as well as "denying entry to all communists and totalitarians".

"My question is, what do we do with the ones who are already here?' he pondered, before moving on to the subject of the war in Ukraine - something he claimed he could "settle" within 24 hours.

"Before I even arrive at the Oval Office, I will have the horrible war between Russia and Ukraine settled," he exclaimed.
