Thank you for this. I tried for years, both with the help of Naturopaths and on my own to manage my chronic depression naturally. There was only one remedy or regimen ever that helped me, and it was absolutely unaffordable at the time. Luckily, I had VA Health benefit access and was able to get anti-depressants without cost. But the luckiest thing of all was having a psychiatrist who saw into the complexity of my illness and realized it had several causes. I was resistant to taking any meds because of my earliest experience and because the meds they gave my mother seemed to make her worse. The one thing my doctor said that made more sense than anything before was, “Psych Meds have come a long, long way since your mother’s time.” That was enough to allay my fears, and it has been marvelous to experience how they have helped. One thing people don’t realize is when one is in so deep, it changes one’s chemistry, and then help is needed to even get to the place where one can get out in the sun, exercise, etc. Shaming someone for taking medication is not only unkind, it can be downright cruel.
