Is Spotify Making A.I. Clones Of Its Podcast Hosts?

Spotify is reportedly developing AI tools that can create targeted ads using the voices of podcast hosts. Bill Simmons, who sold The Ringer podcast network to Spotify in 2020, revealed the company’s plans to train AI on hosts’ voices to personalize advertisements during the May 19 episode of The Bill Simmons Podcast.

Simmons also speculated about the potential for AI bots to create entire podcasts that mimic the style of specific hosts. AI podcasts could enable geo-targeting for specific events and make podcasts more accessible through translation. Spotify has been at the center of the AI-generated content debate musically, after removing AI-soundalike tracks and mass-produced content.

The company has yet to officially speak on the matter, including its AI advertising plans, but stated that it is continuously exploring ways to enhance the user experience.
