A man was arrested after two people were reportedly spiked with a needle at Reading Festival. The alleged incident occurred during a performance by festival headliners, the Arctic Monkeys, on Saturday (August 27).

A Thames Valley Police spokesperson confirmed that a man had been arrested in connection with an incident of needle spiking. However, they also told Berkshire Live that he had been released without charge.

The incident was one of a number of arrests made by police over the weekend. Rumours of a gunman at Reading Festival were also denied by Thames Valley Police.

Tents were also set on fire at the campsite as disorder escalated during the final day of the event on Sunday, August 28. Fighting among festivalgoers and looting from tents was also said to have taken place.

A Thames Valley Police spokesperson said: "We did make an arrest of a man in connection with an incident of needle spiking, but he was released without charge."

Replying to the allegations of a gunman on site, a spokesperson said: "We can confirm that there is no live incident of this nature at the festival, and no reports of a gunman."
