SHANGHAI -- China's ruling Communist Party will hold its once-every-five-years national congress on Oct. 16 to appoint a new leadership slate at a "crucial moment," state media Xinhua News Agency said on Tuesday.

President Xi Jinping is widely expected to break with party convention to secure a third term as leader.
