Brazil connects 1.5 GW of renewables to the grid in April
May 17, 2024 11:40 CESTChina's Xinjiang Goldwind Science & Technology (SHE:002202) has decided to build a wind turbine factory in the northeastern Brazilian state of Bahia.
The facility, the company’s first outside China, is scheduled to commence operations in March 2024, the local government announced recently. It will be built in the municipality of Camacari at the same site as an existing General Electric factory.
In Bahia, Goldwind plans to fabricate equipment with capacities ranging from 6.2 MW to 8.3 MW. Currently, the wind turbines made in Brazil have a maximum capacity of a little over 6 MW, the state government noted.
It is expected that Goldwind’s local unit will hold a 25% to 30% share of the Brazilian wind turbine market.
According to Goldwind's vice-president in Brazil, Roberto Veiga, the project includes the implementation of a wind component supplier park, consisting of a group of sector players.
