Kremlin expects details from Astana on reports about NATO peacekeeping center

It is noted that peacekeeping missions "have their specifics"

MOSCOW, October 25. /TASS/. Moscow expects Astana to provide additional information on reports about the alleged opening of a NATO peacekeeping center, Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters.

By the time he commented, the Kazakh Defense Ministry had refuted reports saying that a new NATO peacekeeping operations center had opened in the republic in an interview with TASS.

"[We] have to collect more detailed information. Peacekeeping missions have their specifics, and Kazakh troops are partaking [in missions] across the globe," Peskov maintained. Certainly, we expect to obtain additional information from our friends in Astana," he said.

Kazakhstan’s Defense Ministry explained that, on October 23, a new conference hall of its Peacekeeping Operations Center officially opened in Astana with US Ambassador to Kazakhstan Daniel Rosenblum attending. Established in 2006, the Center has been functioning as an educational facility for developing the peacekeeping component of Kazakhstan’s Armed Forces. The center specializes in pre-departure training for Kazakh peacekeepers assigned to UN missions, the ministry added.

Earlier, the social media reported that a NATO center had allegedly opened in Kazakhstan.
