    A few years ago, Snap, the parent of photo-sharing application Snapchat, was said to be disinterested in India. Now, it is looking to drive up user engagement and advertising revenue by tying up with creators from its base in non-metro markets.

    In April 2017, news broke that social media company Snap’s co-founder Evan Spiegel had once said in a meeting that its photo-sharing app “was only for rich people” and wasn’t meant for “poor countries like India”. The report, published in Variety magazine, cited claims in a lawsuit filed by a former employee.
