Save Clean Energy cultivates and amplifies grassroots movements that protect existing clean energy resources, while championing new clean infrastructure.

DIABLO CANYON

In 2022, Save Clean Energy was instrumental in extending the life of Diablo Canyon, California’s last remaining nuclear power plant, and the state’s largest single source of electricity. Diablo Canyon supplies about 17% of California's zero-carbon electricity and 9% of total electricity. It makes enough electricity for 3 million people without producing any climate changing emissions.

Save Clean Energy is working to speed the transition to a clean energy future by helping local coal communities “repower” their decommissioned (or soon-to-be decommissioned). In the wake of a reduction in coal usage to help meet climate goals, there has also been significant reduction in the workforce and community revenue from these closures. We organize public, community, and regulatory support to repower these sites with clean, reliable, and safe nuclear power.
