"A Room Alive!" is a short documentary exploring and showcasing UW-Madison's Comics Room and the community it has inspired--featuring interviews with Lynda Barry, Jeff Butler, and Julia Tanenbaum.
This started as a documentary short for my Communication Arts 651: Advanced Video Production and Direction course at UW-Madison, but I was able to continue working on it in hopes of sharing it with the wonderful community that helped me along the way.
"A Room Alive!" was recently screened at the 2024 Wisconsin Film Festival as a part of "Richard Davis, Lynda Barry, and The Wisconsin Idea", as well as receiving a Golden Badger Award Honorable Mention: "Tommie Capelli's documentary about UW Madison's Comics Room, established by Professor Cats (The Musical) AKA Lynda Barry, might just make you want to pick up a pen yourself (and deserves honorable mention for innovation in pseudonyms)."
