AAP demonstrates how EVMs can be ‘manipulated’ in Delhi Assembly

Aam Aadmi Party MLA Saurabh Bharadwaj demonstrated how the Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) can be easily "manipulated".

At the special Delhi Assembly session convened by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, the Aam Aadmi Party has demonstrated how the Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) can be “manipulated”.

4.30 pm: Kapil Mishra on AAP claims that an EVM can be tampered with: “Tomorrow they will tell voters that there is something wrong with their finger and that it presses the wrong button.”

3.50 pm: Here is a recap of what Bharadwaj said about “manipulating” EVMs: The Greater Kailash MLA, using a dummy EVM, demonstrated to the House how easy it is to rig a voting machine. Bharadwaj alleged that on the day of polling a “manipulator” enters the polling booth as voting is underway and enters an unique secret code. The votes cast henceforth are polled to the selected candidate, he claimed. Bharadwaj also claimed that the motherboard of an EVM can be changed in just 90 seconds. He challenged “scientists” to explain to him how the EVMs cannot be hacked.

3.02 pm: Demonstrating how an EVM is susceptible to manipulation, AAP MLA Saurabh Bharadwaj conducts a mock poll where he gives two votes each to various parties. The final tally of the votes cast however shows that a few parties received zero votes and that they were transferred to the remaining parties.

2:53 pm:  “People of India cannot be fooled. You cannot win 282 seats in UP. If a chip in petrol pump can be manipulated, EVMs too can be tampered with,” an AAP MLA said.

2:48 pm “When our candidates went to people to ask for votes, they said ‘We will give you vote. But do check the EVMs’,” said an AAP MLA.

2.29 pm: For those who have missed, earlier BJP MLA Vijender Gupta was marshalled out of the assembly for disrupting the proceedings.

2.27 pm: It is easy to tamper older generation EVMs. Instead of using the newer version in the Delhi MCD polls, the State EC used the older version: Alka Lamba.

2.24 pm: AAP MLA Alka Lamba: “It is not the first time that questions were raised against the EVMs…after the election results in Uttar Pradesh came out, people began saying that they never voted for the BJP.”

1.55 pm: Kapil Mishra met CBI officials and asked them to register an FIR against Kejriwal, Jain and other AAP leaders. Here is a list of his allegations:

1) Kejriwal took Rs 2 crore in cash from Jain. 2) Jain helped Kejriwal’s brother-in-law in settling a land deal worth Rs 50 crore. 3) AAP government misused public money in a water tanker scam. 4) Former Punjab convenor Sanjay Singh accepted money from party ticket aspirants. 5) AAP leaders Sanjay Singh, Ashish khetan, Satyendar Jain, Raghav Chadha used unaccounted money to fund foreign trips.

1.45 pm: We are just 15 minutes away from the special assembly proceedings beginning in the Delhi Vidhan Sabha. Kerjiwal, earlier on Twitter, said that AAP MLA from Greater Kailash, Saurabh Bharadwaj will expose a big conspiracy going on in the country.

1.30 pm: It will be interesting to see what the AAP government will reveal in the specially convened assembly session today. A quick look at AAP leaders Twitter timeline suggests that it could be something linked to the Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs). After finishing second in the Punjab assembly and Delhi MCD polls, the AAP leadership raised questions over the functioning of the voting machines, alleging that they can be manipulated.

1.20 pm: Earlier in the day, BJP workers protested outside Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kerjwal’s residence. Delhi BJP chief Manoj Tiwari had demanded Kejriwal’s resignation and asked Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijpal to recommend President’s rule in Delhi.

12.55 pm: On Sunday: Mishra said he saw Kerjiwal accept Rs 2 crore from Jain and raised questions over the source of funds received by the party ahead of Punjab polls.

On Monday: Mishra appears before ACB and submits evidence in water tanker scam. He claims that Jain helped Kejriwal’s brother-in-law to settle a land deal worth Rs 50 crore.

On Tuesday: Mishra accuses AAP senior leaders of using unaccounted money to fund their foreign trips.

12.45 pm: Kapil Mishra arrives at CBI headquarters to handover evidence against Arvind Kejriwal, Satyendar Jain and other AAP leaders.

12.30 pm: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, who convened a special assembly session today, tweeted: “Today in assembly, Saurabh Bharaawaj will disclose the truth about a big conspiracy going on in the country…truth will prevail.”

Earlier in the morning, Mishra sought ‘blessing’ from Kejriwal before heading to the CBI office to submit evidence against him and others. “Bless me… I am filing an FIR against you,” Mishra said, addressing the media in Delhi and reading out a letter he wrote to the AAP convener.

Mishra also challenged Kejriwal to resign and stand in elections against him.

On Sunday, a day after being sacked as water resources minister, Mishra accused Kejriwal of accepting Rs 2 crore in cash from Jain. Mishra appeared before the Anti-Corruption Branch on Monday and submitted evidence against the AAP government for allegedly misusing public money in a water tanker scam. He also claimed that Jain helped Kejriwal’s brother-in-law, who passed away recently, in settling a land deal worth Rs 50 crore. On Tuesday, Mishra alleged that several senior AAP leaders used “illegal money” to fund their foreign trips. He even threatened to sit on hunger strike from Wednesday if they fail to disclose details of the trips.
