I was asked by a friend, who leads a regular life not ensconced in politics, about the Uri Berliner piece months ago. He asked if I knew about NPR screwing up its Trump Russia coverage.
We were having beers and I blew up, Berliner was wrong, he didn’t cover Trump-Russia, which was obvious from his writing, and didn’t know the facts or the nuances (of which there are many)
Berliner worked on the business desk. I said his essay would be like me, a career government and politics reporter, dumping on the business desk for allegedly hiding the credit default swaps ahead of the Great Recession as part of some grand plan of The Illuminati ™
Anyway, venting done. This piece from the very thoughtful and balanced Steve Inskeep is great, and offers some guidance on why journalism works and how it works
