In 2015, Ben Horowitz returned to Columbia University, his own alma mater, to give the commencement speech. The same school where, decades earlier, a friend told him majoring in computer science was “the stupidest thing I’ve ever heard.”

He ignored them and that decision shaped the rest of his career.

So when he came back to give the speech, he didn’t hand out the usual feel-good advice.
