How to Travel to Benin Republic as a Nigerian Passport holder 🇧🇯🇳🇬
A lot of Nigerians are quietly taking getaways to Benin Republic, and honestly… I get it.
It’s the kind of place where you can finally take a deep breath.
Everyone I know who has gone once always wants to go back.
1
What you need to travel:
Your valid international passport
Your yellow fever card
You can get your yellow card at Port Health, Ikeja.
2
Pack light.
Think comfort over fashion.
Light clothes, easy footwear, anything you can walk around in stress-free.
3
Getting there:
If you can get to Mile 2, you’ll find buses going straight to the Benin border.
Or you can go the easy route.
I used Beninfy, they picked me up from my house in Lagos and dropped me at my destination in Benin Republic.
4
Currency tip:
Change your money to CFA before you enter the country, or immediately after crossing the border.
It will save you stress.
5
Book your accommodation before you arrive.
Please don’t wing it.
Make sure your place has WiFi, because the moment you cross into Benin, your Nigerian SIM will likely stop working, except you’re using roaming (which can be expensive).
I stayed at La Villa Saint Jean, very hospitable and comfortable.
6
Once you settle in:
Be respectful of the country and the culture.
It’s a very clean place, so don’t litter.
7
Places to explore:
Ganvié (the floating village)
Ouidah (history and culture)
Amazon Statue
Fondation Zinsou
Gogotinkpon
Take your time and enjoy it.
8
Enjoy your stay, move around, and actually rest.
Benin Republic is one of those trips that resets you.
