My heart is breaking…
I so want to physically show up for the peaceful protest this Saturday but am unable to do so due to my health. I tried several ways to make arrangements so that I could, but for various reasons was unable to succeed. I’m out of viable options to exercise for that purpose now, and am deeply disappointed and distressed.
These feelings come from a variety of reasons, the chief one being that US Federal Judges have been putting their personal and family’s wellbeing on the line to uphold the law and our country’s Constitution from the relentless attacks by the Federal Executive branch and the wealthy oligarch overlords who are now in control of it. The Jan. 6 hoodlums have been pardoned and essentially given free rein to terrorize those who resist the dysfunctional and dangerous agenda of the Executive branch and its minions. A US Senator has now been attacked by law enforcement officials while representing his constituents in his home state at a press conference held by a federal official over which he has oversight on a senate committee.
I’m unable see how we citizens can expect these brave judges to hold the line if they don’t see enough popular support for what they’ve so far been doing to uphold the rule of law and our Constitution. Likewise for any sympathetic Armed Services members who might be called upon attack civilians peacefully protesting the current administration’s reckless policies and unlawful actions. They all swore allegiance to the Constitution, as it is lawfully interpreted by the Courts and not the Executive Branch. But will they have the courage to resist orders contrary to their oath if they don’t see the general populace coming out to physically take a stand against the lawless and tyrannical disregard for the Constitution and Courts by the current administration and its appointed or elected supporters at other levels of government.
I look at the current level of public participation at peaceful protests and wonder if it’s truly enough to influence and embolden public servants in the judiciary, military, and elsewhere with the courage they’ll need to do what is right for the preservation of democracy in our country. Many, including some in the private sector such as the media, have already paid a high price for speaking truth to power. The consequences of their steadfast allegiance to the rule of law via our Constitution and Courts are both inspiring and frightening at the same time.
There are many reasons why our nation has come to this distressful point in its history. These all need to be better addressed when it can be done without the heavy influences of oligarchs and other special interests tipping the scales of democracy away from the common good of the people. For now We The People must take an active stand against these usurpers of the freedoms enshrined in our Constitution, Bill of Rights, and lawfully enacted Amendments to the Constitution. I fear that if we fail to do so now then our country will only slip further from democracy toward the sort of facist dictatorship which Germany experienced near the middle of the last century.
I’ve been fighting Stage 4 cancer for more than 4 years and, as would be expected, it’s taken a great toll on my ability to exercise my free speech in all the ways I’d hope to do it. I’m hoping you’ll represent me at one of the many peaceful protests planned for this Saturday. Particularly if you’ve not already considered doing so!
Thank you!🙏🏻 ❤️
