I always thought that people are like me: eating 1-sentence recipes you see on Reddit.

I’ve realized some people aren’t aware of these. After all, googling “cooking” or “xyz recipe” will lead to the most intimidating version of cooking. And many Americans didn’t grow up in a home where cooking is the default.

For me, cooking daily looks like:

  1. Microwave a whole potato to bake it. Add whatever toppings and fats.

  2. Boil pasta. Add tomato sauce, veggies, and seasonings.

  3. Rice and frozen mixed veggies in microwave or rice cooker. Have it with canned chili.

  4. Lentils and whatever veggies in a rice cooker or on stove. Add enough water with bouillon so it’s soup.

  5. Brown rice, lentils, canned tomatoes, and veggies in a rice cooker.

  6. Break tofu in a pan with veggies and add seasoning.

  7. Sandwich with baby carrots.

  8. Microwave oats and add fruit and peanut butter.

  9. Fruit with nuts. Or hummus with bread, carrots, or celery.

  10. Trader Joe’s frozen meals with side of frozen veggies (though as an immigrant kid, frozen meals feel like splurges)

I’m really glad we have complex “hobby” cooking but normal life isn’t like that! :) Even for hobby cooks!

This is a legit way to eat too! No shame for lazy meals!!
