Surprised at the tone deafness of Plum Sykes openly admitting (bragging?) about the army of unpaid interns that keep your (monetised!) Substack going. Unpaid internships are an exploitative, unfair labour practice that make the fashion and media industries (even more) inaccessible to those who don’t come from well-connected, well-financed backgrounds - which not coincidentally, seems to be the profile of most if not all of the interns in this newsletter. It’s shameful to still be operating in that way in this day and age.
Also I did initially make this point as a (short, polite - “you really should be paying your interns (all three of them) or hire an assistant, particularly given your Substack is monetised!”) comment on this post, which was deleted. Not trying to publicly shame anyone but it’s just not acceptable to be operating like this.
