I used to think I was disorganized because I could not keep a calendar. Last month I started one. The same calendar I had quit 4 times before.
The thing that changed was not my discipline. I moved the calendar to the spot on my desk where my coffee mug lands every morning. The mug got there first. The calendar got opened second. Then a third time at 11. Then once before bed.
The discipline was never the problem. The location of the calendar was the problem. My brain needed the calendar in the path of something it was already doing.
The fix was not behavioral. It was spatial. The calendar moved 8 inches and my week moved with it.
External activation is neurology, not character.
