The Islamic State Khorasan Province (ISKP) has claimed responsibility for the assassination of the Taliban's Director of Information and Culture for Badakhshan.

In a statement, ISKP said its "soldiers of the Caliphate" targeted a Taliban commander near Faizabad, the provincial capital of Badakhshan, using machine guns, killing him and one of his guards.

The director, Zabihullah Amiri, was killed on Tuesday by unidentified gunmen riding motorcycles while travelling toward Faizabad.
