Make money doing the work you believe in

Deezer continues to position itself as the ethical leader in the highly competitive music streaming market.

The French streaming platform, who says that “60,000 AI tracks are uploaded daily,” has chosen to champion real people - and the soul of their company - by demoting AI generated content, showing other companies that this is technically possible and offering them the opportunity to license their AI detecting tools to do the same.

“We detect and tag AI-generated music and remove it from algorithmic recommendations, so that our users have a clear choice regarding what to listen to, while making it harder for fraudsters to game the system. And of course, every fraudulent stream we detect is demonetised so that the royalties of human artists, songwriters and other rights owners are not affected.”

At the moment we have inadequate anti-competition legislation, which means it is easy for platforms like Spotify to lock in their users. However companies like Deezer are making it clear that online businesses can be both ethical and successful. The public will rewards them by migrating directly to them, or they’ll treat this as a consumer issue and demand competition rules that are fit for our times and allow users to port their data and the libraries they purchased from a platform to an other.

Being unethical is a choice, not an unchangeable characteristic of being a business.
