The Twitter Exodus seems alive and well?
On early Sunday morning, Elon Musk dropped a bombshell about restricted viewing of Tweets.
Threads (Barcelona) launches on July 6th (Thursday), then there’s Bluesksy, PostNews, Mastodon, Notes and others.
I will go where there is a real chance of niche readers being potentially located. But there is a noticeable drop in social media activity, it’s the end of an era.
Consumers want private high quality experiences and more entertainment. Instead of you know, algorithmic glue without much substance.
This bodes well long-term for subscription networks like Substack, but as writers we might have to be daring with Podcasts and Video content to make sure we have a sustainable future.
What do you make of all of this?
Of course the white elephant in the room is actually LinkedIn posts, that is now very niche friendly if you are an expert in the field, i.e. if your career is directly related to what you write about.
So a real “journalist” or a real engineer have priority on LinkedIn, as compared with a Creator that’s more of a freelancer enthusiast. It’s all about credibility, authority, expertise verification and looking like an “expert”.
This bifurcation of social media is a sign of the fad fading. But what will actually replace it?
