I’m obsessed with the U.S. labor market and AI, but O’ Canada. 🟥🍁🟥
Canada's labour market experienced a sharp downturn in February 2026, losing 84,000 jobs, primarily in full-time, private-sector positions. The unemployment rate rose to 6.7%, driven by declines in retail, wholesale, manufacturing, and construction industries.
The youth unemployment rate among the ages 15 to 24 group rose 1.3 percentage points in February to 14.1 per cent.
Quebec (e.g. Montreal, Quebec City) led the country in job losses, with employment declining by 57,000 or 1.2 per cent. This was the largest employment decrease in the province in four years, raising the unemployment rate by 0.7 percentage points to 5.9 per cent.
