Pop songs do this a lot. They have vibey non-specific lyrics that hint at something or are sometimes almost meaningless, but the beat is great and the melody will stick to your brain like peanut butter. I used to be this kind of writer until a good friend of mine, Kent Maxson , who was one of Garth Brooks’ go-to writers and who had a gold selling hit called From Where I’m Sitting that basically launched country star Gary Allan’s career, sat me down and asked me if I just accepted lines because they sounded okay with the melody.
