I think religion is great for other people. I’d rather hang out with them than the militant atheists.
That said: they're wrong. Absence of evidence is not evidence of God. They keep moving the goalposts back: first it was “All those species had to be created by God.” Then once evolution was established, it was “well, the eye couldn't have evolved!”. Then when light-sensitive cells were shown to be precursors, it was … well. I don't know what.
Sean Carroll has shown how “poetic realism” answers your issues. “Emergent properties” is the answer.
Don’t take this as a hate message, like all the other libs are giving you. But your values are not at risk with science.
