The Politician Season 2, the most Ryan Murphy-ian Ryan Murphy show to have possibly ever been created. This happened in this real show: Gwyneth Paltrow's character runs for governor of California on a secessionist platform (with an impressively strained climate change flourish), wins 98–2, and then parlays that into winning the presidency. Concurrently, Gwyneth's character's son, played by Ben Platt, launches an upstart campaign to unseat an establishment New York State senator played by Judith Light, whose Big Scandal is that she's in a throuple; that throuple then briefly turns into a love square (?) when Judith's campaign manager, played by Bette Midler (yes), falls for the second man in the Judith Light throuple. That race comes down to a squeaker and ends with Judith conceding to Ben Platt, who then becomes Gwyneth's vice president in the White House, who THEN (I'm almost done), asks Ben Platt to be her running mate when SHE runs for president after Gwyneth finishes her one and only term. This is the only show that reflects the insanity of our world and I will always think of it when I think of this time.
