Wordcountability: Friday the 20th of September, 2024.

I like that, the moment my timer went off, I stopped at 999 words. In some ways, this makes my brain happier than the time I stopped at precisely 1000.

Today’s scenes include one featuring the very big breakthrough/plot point which this whole character arc has been leading to. And then things go quickly. I’m a big believer in trying to keep the pace moving, writing—as I know Lee Child has said—the slow stuff fast and the fast stuff slow.

This way, the reader is pulled along quickly, the excitement of the realisation/discovery carrying into the next scenes, rather than slowing back down into a morass of, say, details of transportation between locales. That journey went by in a couple of brief paragraphs.

Probably no wordcountability until Tuesday, I have a meeting on Monday, and I doubt I’ll have chance to draft any new words.

As it stands, this character arc, draft one, is now at 19074 words, to add to the 13198 and 36396 I’ve already drafted (and redrafted/reworked/edited) in this story. Neither of those other character arcs are complete, either.
