WAAAAY back in May, before I joined Substack, I wrote an extremely long-winded article about a handful of plagiarists whose entire movements depended on plagiarism and other types of fraud, which I mentioned to

in the context of “knowledge vampirism.” I revisited the topic in October, before the issues with Harvard University became public knowledge, in an article that still isn’t finished yet. However, after ’s appearance on the Podcast of the Lotus Eaters, I think maybe I should prioritise finishing said article.

Boghossian and colleagues can try to answer how much plagiarism there is, but I’m more interested in figuring out why it is allowed, even perhaps encouraged. I have a working hypothesis. The short version is that the neo-gnostic priests consider getting the gospel out to be far too important to be hindered by a little old thing like academic honesty. The long version? Well, that’s going to take a while to articulate.
