I'm going to try and be sincere here, and assume you operate more from a want for women's freedom rather than an innate hatred for religion, but your rhetoric only harms the former goal.
You wanna critique theology? Sure, idrc, thats alot of reading on philosophy necessitated though. But rather I assume youd say you want to critique the material impacts of religion, and this is where the issue arises.
You fundamentally misunderstand the role of ideology in a society. Ideologies, institutions, culture, and RELIGION fluctuate in response to material conditions. What your writing does is ever so slightly push a western narrative of inherent barbarism within people of Muslim countries, which is used to justify invasion, extraction, and the consequent destitution. Would you believe that imperialized and impoverished nations aren't able to progress in any regard, especially in regards to women's rights? To put it bluntly, your rhetoric indirectly bombs muslim women, which doesnt seem so liberating. And if not that, it contributes to the destitution of a society wherein they become insular, regressive, and combative against progressive ideas. If you want to improve women's rights in poor countries, fight for them not to be poor, fight against imperialism, and then have this conversation alongside that. Ideas dont run societies, material reality does.
I dont care if you dont believe in God, like at all. But I do care about the negative affect you have on people from global south countries. You seem to be from Pakistan. So am I. Im not going to tell you that pakistan is not repressive and doesnt have problems. But to unremarkably focus on the superstructure of ideas as opposed to the REAL, MATERIAL impoverishment, exploitation, geopolitical violence, that fundamentally contributes to the reality that you dislike, is unproductive at best, and actively murderous at worst. Women suffer from repression, yes, but this is due to the widespread poverty and global exploitation that has defined this country for decades, which leads to regressive, patriarchal, mysognistic thought. Not only that, these women suffer from starvation, economic exploitation, poverty, ethnic and caste based oppression. Fight against those, this will be more productive for your goal, i promise. Developed nations where mass amounts of people are not suffering tend to be the ones that can progress in ideas, culture, outlook, etc. And again, if you think that this reality is BECAUSE of ideas, and not because of material conditions and geopolitics, you are severely misunderstanding how this world operates.
If you seek the liberation of women, your work does not serve your goal.
And last thing, neither you (a non Muslim), nor I (a man) know what is best for MUSLIM WOMEN. Let them talk without dehumanizing them.
^since I am restacking this ill make my position clear for my other viewers, patriarchy and misogyny exist. muslim men also need to understand their epistemic limitations. We do not know what the lived experience of a muslim women is. They have every right to speak on what their rights are and how they are being mistreated within a given society or culture, and men need to respond with empathy, on equal grounds, and take every possible effort in this regard. And also dudes need to have some humility, for Gods sake.
Here are books on the effects on imperialism: the global perspective. late victorian holocausts. on empire. blackshirts and red. imperialism, the highest stage of capitalism. Anything by Frantz fanon really. Dependency theory and unequal exchange (not a book but a general study, if ur actually curious about that topic ill lyk books that cover it)
