Just as a caterpillar can dissolve into goo and reorganize into a butterfly….without dying, yet changing identities in a beautiful way…perhaps the same could be a template for the transformation of the United States and other colonizer/former colonizer/assimilationist institutions - even corporate bodies - from a Caterpillar that consumes to a Butterfly that offers beauty and pollination, sipping nectar in a way that doesn’t harm the flowers, but actually benefits them, and all life. When a caterpillar is in the chrystalis, there is much resistances because the template for butterfly feels so different, it has an auto-immune response to its own. Yet the imaginal cells just keep coming and soon the old identity melts to become the new one without a death…it is only the death of the template, not the actual self. Perhaps this is a model for how we might, as a world imagine undoing colonialism and assimilationist policies and foster a world that allows BEING and nurtures harmony and peace for all, without violating the individual or group sovereignty of any.
