Seeing lots of people talking about how folks should love The Bride! because it's not a cookie cutter movie and like...that's cool, and I absolutely appreciate a big swing, but that's not enough of a reason for me to automatically like something. My favorite movie is Everything Everywhere All At Once, which is messy and chaotic. It jumps around universes and languages. But it's still a well-told story. You watch enough indie cinema and you're gonna see lots of not-great big swings.

By all means, support movies. See stuff that you might not like. People are making movies that are interesting all the time. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. But don't automatically assume that not liking a big swing means someone only likes the standard fare.
