I was catching up with someone the other day whoâs in a similar stage of life (40-ish, two young kids, demanding full-time role) who mentioned a friend of hers whoâd made a huge career pivot from the corporate world to medical school.
Sheâd taken a big leap of faith based on her dreams. At age 40, that woman is now a hospital resident alongside late-20s graduates, working 80-hour weeks packed with inpatient rotations, rounds & on-call duties, for very little money compared to the corporate world.
My first reaction wasnât âDamn, good for her!â or âThatâs so inspiringâ or âWow, she must have great storiesâ; it was âSHE MUST BE SO TIRED.â
Was it always this exhausting to want things, or is that just the particular tax of being alive right now?
