Going to museums and looking back in history at other painful chapters gives me comfort, too, because you will always find people who were fighting for the world to be better and kinder. Always.

There isn’t any way to see into the future, but at the very least, we can be sure when people look back at this time in history — and they will — we will be the people fighting to make the world better and kinder than this.

That’s something, right? To comfort someone in the future going through a time that feels unthinkable, wondering how people survive and what they do, maybe ending up in a textbook photo in the crowd at some protest with a sign in your hand and fire in your heart. It’s not nothing.

And who knows, maybe we’ll turn things around in time to tell our grandkids or grandnieces-and-nephews the story of this insane decade, and how it was the catalyst for change. It could happen. I am not without hope.
