This was not about Gaza. This was about killing the international momentum for Palestine, and Hamas may have handed them that victory
Unless there is a major, major part of this that we don't know (and this is extremely unlikely), what Hamas just committed is an act of inconceivable political stupidity that I will never be able to understand.
Precisely one moth ago, Israel gave Hamas the biggest gift it has received throughout this two years of horror: it bombed their leadership in Qatar as they were meeting to discuss the latest US-Israeli proposal.
That attack happened as humanity's eyes were on Palestine and the General Assembly discussions about Palestine recognition and necessary urgent action.
The timing was perfect for Hamas: now they could reliably go the international community and say: the US and Israel have shown themselves to be bad faith actors and we do not trust them. We want the involvement of other elements - the UN, or China, in safeguarding the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people with actual concrete steps.
It was the time to escalate the diplomatic war against Israel, and channel all the energy millions of demonstrators bought around the world.
It was the moment to move ahead and act for Palestinian victory, and just a pause in the annihilation.
Trump was also feeling the heat from unprecedented disgust with Israel and its cruelty in the US and the Republican party.
Sinwar's strategic objective of putting Israel and its backers under unbearable pressure was finally achieved.
So what did Hamas immediately do? IMMEDIATELY?
Agreed again to negotiate with the people who tried to kill them a minute ago, and accepted terms of surrender that do not advance the Palestinian cause one inch, but instead set them back decades.
I cannot comprehend this. It is madness and madenning political stupidity. It is unbelievable.

Now, if Israel assassinates all of them on Tuesday, no one will even care. Israel has been let off the hook. In humanity's mind, 'the war is over', even if, on the ground, it hasn't and won't stop, and the occupation is as heavy and murderous as always, and no one in Israel was brought to justice.
What a huge and bitter disappointment.

Hamas' stupidity is going to cost them and Palestine dearly. The organization, in fact, has declared itself irrelevant. But we must not abandon Palestine despite their shockingly stupid conduct. The fire in the Palestinian struggle has died for now, but we will have to rekindle it, and keep it alive.
Hamas does not represent Palestine, and is not Palestine. Sadly, this crucial and critical political cause has no one to lead it.
It is on us to understand and explain how important Palestine is for humanity, and how, without full and unconditional Palestinian freedom and dignity, and justice for the victims of Israel and America's colonialism and genocide, we are all screwed.

The killing of Palestinians will not stop for one day, and neither will the Zionist mission to take over humanity's consciousness and conversation
