I find much of the work going on agentic ‘human simulation’, synthetic participants etc deeply weak and troubling. Its model of humans is downstream of so much of the misplaced energy of psychology in the late 20th century. Even more troubling are the positions of those backing it. If it does end up revealing the weakness of much of the work it’s based on, I guess that’s a positive.
