Really enjoyed this piece, which echoed so many of my own concerns about Yesteryear's lazy research and lackluster plotting. I would love to read a novel that truly explores pioneer life and its appeal to women who feel threatened by feminism. It's a fascinating topic and it could be done well!
One concern I had, however, was the criticism both this piece and The Argument ‘s excellent takedown had for Brittney Walker's essay on being an ex-Mormon. I don't agree with Walker's conclusions-- I think the book was objectively bad-- but I'm hesitant to question her lived experience and state unequivocally that her piece was AI. other writers on this platform have vouched for her authenticity, and those AI-checkers are notoriously inaccurate.
