Taking care of yourself, the people around you, or the earth are all forms of nurturing. The act of nurturing a garden can hit all of the categories, in one go.
Gardening has been scientifically proven to reduce cortisol levels which in turn reduces stress and anxiety. Getting out in the sunshine to tend your garden lowers blood pressure and increases Vitamin D. Full body exercise comes from digging, raking or some such activity. I’m sure I’ll be sore after hauling bags of mulch this weekend 🤣
Nurturing plants from babies to harvest soothes the soul, then provides inexpensive nutrition. Gardening can become a social experience too. We have been known to have friends come over on a Sunday, we’ll work in the garden, harvest or forage what’s available, then cook a meal or put up some jam or pesto together to share. Not only nurturing the hearth and home, but friendships as well.
