This reminds me of a thought I had about reincarnation.

You don’t remember your past lives. Many express regret to learn this.

But consider if you remembered it all–how horrible wouldn’t that be? The sorrows, the deaths, the cruel existence. It would drive most mad.

Incidentally, this thought of mine was explored in Altered Carbon, so it’s not original. But it is an interesting one.
