I answer emails and work on my newsletter and fiddle with a short story and walk the dog and pack a suitcase for Thrillerfest and in the back of my mind, like low-volume music, is the knowledge that AT ANY SECOND I COULD GET EDITOR NOTES ON MY FIRST DRAFT.
