YOU'RE MISSING THE ANTLOS (ἌΝΤΛΟΣ)

A short dream message: “You’re missing the Antlos.” Antlos being Greek for bilge water, or the unavoidable water and waste that accumulates in a ship’s bilge that needs pumped out to prevent sinking. It can consist of oil, chemicals, urine—basically anything that isn’t properly handled will drain to the bilge. In a perfect world there wouldn’t be leaks, spills or rough seas, but inevitably the bilge fills.

The collective unconscious is the entire ocean, but there is a tiny part of it that still belongs to my ship below deck. It’s interesting that sometimes material comes from the ship itself, and sometimes it leaks in from the ocean. This begs the question: when the bilge water needs purged, should I dump it in the ocean or take it back on shore? Sticking with the dream’s metaphor, there are a lot of rules and regulations about dumping bilge water into the ocean. It is a pollutant that is toxic to the ecosystem. Not to mention that an excess of it building up can indicate something that needs fixed on the ship. Probably best to bring it back to shore and process the bilge water there. (And make any necessary repairs to the ship.)
