The app for independent voices

Here's a periodic reminder: I write a newsletter called Transfer Orbit, which is all about genre, fandom, reading, science fiction, writing, and quite a bit more.

This newsletter is my way of keeping up with, commentating, and reporting on the genre world in a couple of ways. I love writing it.

There are a couple of regular features: a monthly book list and Table of Contents, which rounds up the short fiction coming out each month to connect readers to stories:

September Book list 1:

Table of Contents: transfer-orbit.ghost.io/table-of…

I read a lot and write a whole bunch of reviews, which (hopefully!) go beyond "this book is good." I try and get to the heart of what the story tells me, or something interesting that it's doing.

Some recent reviews:

- The Bewitching:

- Fight Magic Items:

- Automatic Noodle:

Another big bucket that I send to subscribers (usually supporting subscribers) are shorter news pieces of things that catch my interest, sometimes with some longer commentary or context.

- 2025 Hugo Awards winners:

- Allen Steele's Coyote is coming back to print:

- Folio Society is republishing God Emperor of Dune:

I'll also take time to write up longer commentaries or reported features about genre happenings:

- Warhammer 40k IP + cosplay:

- 1 Paragraph's acquisition of a trio of legacy SF magazines:

- Looking at two decades of Scalzi's Old Man's War:

There's some more there too: other pieces that I've written about history, culture, and more. Subscribers get a weekly roundup of the news, too.

This is all to say that I write TO as a resource for fans of all types as a way to keep up to date in the field of storytelling in all its forms. It's free to read, but if you like it, you can support it through affiliate purchase or by signing up as a supporting subscriber. If that sounds like something you'd find useful, you can sign up here:

I'd love to have you read along!
